Figured it out
Anna Calvi’s album sounds like a bunch of Bond intro songs. In a good way.

Jonathan Franzen - Liking Is For Cowards -... →
towerofsleep:
A related phenomenon is the transformation, courtesy of Facebook, of the verb “to like” from a state of mind to an action that you perform with your computer mouse, from a feeling to an assertion of consumer choice. And liking, in general, is commercial culture’s substitute for loving. The striking thing about all consumer products — and none more so than electronic devices and...

I sometimes think
that the reason why I don’t blog more often is because when I go back and read what I’ve written a few days, weeks, months afterward, it somehow doesn’t feel real or honest. It’s as if my words don’t hold up to my nebulous standard of Me. My fickle mind feels completely disconnected from the words I’ve written, doubtful of their veracity, and the editor in me...

Arcade Fire - “The Suburbs” (Directed by Spike Jonze)
Back in April, word spread that director Spike Jonze was in Austin, Texas shooting a short film about “friends growing apart” to be used in promotion of Arcade Fire’s latest album, The Suburbs. Reps weren’t eager to confirm the reports at first, of course, but now, 7 months later, it has arrived: Enjoy the suburban teen drama...
I downloaded
the new Girl Talk album.
Lauren, Anuraag and I are refraining from listening to it until Thursday, when we’ll play a drinking game in which we take a shot every time Greg Gillis samples a song we’re super down with or that we’ve obsessed over in the last few months.
I call it “Black Out in 2 minutes.”

~Feelings~
I’m going to compile an encyclopedia of human emotions/feelings, starting with these specific situations. Suggestions are welcome:
-Going to a restaurant and ordering something for the first time that you didn’t know existed, or that you didn’t know could be that good and thinking “Yeah, I’m totally getting this next time and every time.”
-Drifting into...

NYT Magazine: What is it about 20-Somethings? →
youngpeoplesuck:
(This article is probably the apex of everything I’ve posted thus far. A truly thought out, 10-page inquiry into why young people suck So Damn Much. I wish I had the leisure time to read the whole thing!)
“Why are so many people in their 20s taking so long to grow up?”
I’m kind of rooting for the whole “20s as a new human developmental stage” theory....

So. I’m at coachella. I’m volunteering in exchange for free admission, and it is 3:30 am. My first shift is at 7am. We waited two hours to just get our parking pass, and we are waiting in another fatty line of cars waiting to get searched. There’s a sea of cars waiting to get in, and each line advances a few feet every fifteen minutes or so. Everybody is sitting on their cars and...
